The old town houses of Ayvalik
You will find a nostalgic and romantic atmosphere in the streets of Ayvalik. Every house which is from the “Greek period” of the town, has an own story . The old town houses of Ayvalik with their neo-classical architecture will give you an impression how life was 100 years ago.

Lesvos is a Greek Island, just in front of Ayvalık. During summertime we have daily ferry trips to Lesvos. Usualy every Thursday the Greeks from Lesvos come for shopping to the market in Ayvalık.

Olives and Ayvalık The 1.800.000 olive trees are giving the area a very special atmosphere to the area of Ayvalık. The sight of the wild flowers in spring time between the olive trees are calling us to spent some time with walking through the mediterranean nature.

Beaches

Around Ayvalık there are many different beaches. Of course the ‘Sarımsaklı Beach’ which is 8 km is worth to bee seen, but we advice you, not to leave Ayvalik without seeing the natural beaches at Paterica.

The streets of the old town are narrow and were orignaly built for horse cars. They still exist today and are used for movements and to sell vegetables in the old town.

Olive oil dishes are tipical in the Ayvalık kitchen. With the population exchange of 1922, many Turks from Crete came and they brought with them their habit of eating. So many the many herbs dishes will remind you the Cretan kitchen.

Art and Ayvalık ...Many artists have come to Ayvalik to paint and have fallen in love with the beauty of the town -some of them have remained. You may encounter artists painting at their easels in the town's streets and surrounding area.

The whole town of Ayvalık is full of house in the neo-classical style. The house are under preservation. A specialized commission is responsible for this area. Some of the beautiful old town houses are waiting for restoration... We have in total 22 monasteries and churches in Ayvalık and its area. Unfortunately it’s not possible to enter them as there are not in a good shape.

Especially for architects and art lovers the houses are very interesting, as all of them have wonderful special details.
